Experience Outshines Name in SOX Preparation

Situation

A major southeast media company needed to put its accounts in order ahead of annual filings, but for the first time had to do so in compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.  Knowing it would need to rebuild some processes to make this compliance perpetual, the company hired some consultants from an internationally renowned accounting firm.  When those consultants showed up, though, they turned out to be junior level with no particular expertise in this sensitive work.  After a few months, the media company's managers realized they were not getting what they paid for and not even adequate performance on the task.

Solution

The company called Kforce, which supplied four consultants in two weeks.  The company was thrilled with Kforce's consultants, who averaged about 15 years of experience and had worked at the controller level for other companies or on other assignments.  Kforce eventually provided a total of 10 consultants, including two in information technology, to complete the seven-month preparation for filings.

Outcome

The media company's managers said they were happy to get such experienced Kforce consultants, particularly when their service was less expensive than the less-experienced consultants who started the project.  When the company decided it needed to create a testing regime for the revamped systems, Kforce again got the call, extending and expanding the Kforce team.  The media company's managers said they were used to having consultants over-promise and under-deliver, but found Kforce instead provided excellent skills as well as service, as promised.
